How do you say "App" in Japanese??

It's not easy to retain vocabulary and expressions when you're studying a language, and it's especially difficult to get words out on the spot when you're having conversations. I hope these weekly posts could be good practice for your Japanese studies!!

The question for today is: How do you say "App" in Japanese??

The answer is...

アプリ [Apuri]

Both App and アプリ are abbreviations of the word "Application", but if you were to say "app" to a Japanese person, they probably would not understand what that means. English stops the letter at "APP" and Japanese goes up to the "APPLI". It's an interesting example of how abbreviated words can become completely different between languages.

Writer's note: One of the most popular apps in Japan is LINE. It's a simple messaging app that allows you to send stickers and messages, and I still don't know why everyone uses it. The brown bear and the white rabbit is pretty cute though I must admit.
