What is Byakuya? BJWotD#11

Beautiful Japanese Word of the Day #11

白夜 (Byakuya)

"Byakuya refers to a natural phenomenon called the Midnight Sun"

The midnight sun can often be seen in the Arctic or Antarctic circle when the sun is up even at midnight. Byakuya can also simply mean nights that are light outside even when the sun is not visible.

白 (shiro/haku) means white

夜 (yoru/ya) means night

Originally, byakuya was read as hakuya, but with time, it became byakuya

Writer’s note: Byakuya reminds me of Kuchiki Byakuya from Bleach so I looked it up but it had a different kanji. Weird how words can have the same sound but be different in spelling. Don't make studying Japanese any harder please.
