It's not easy to retain vocabulary and expressions when you're studying a language, and it's especially difficult to get words out on the spot when you're having conversations. I hope these weekly posts could be good practice for your Japanese, and let's take it one word at a time.
The question for today is: What is "Social Media" in Japanese??

SNS
SNS is an abbreviation of [Social Networking Service]. People in Japan don't use the word "Social Media", so it's important to use SNS instead of Social Media when speaking to a Japanese person. ソーシャルネットワーキングサービス is the Katakana way of writing "Social Networking Service".
Writer's note: I wish we can all agree to either use SNS or Social Media. I always get the two mixed up and would use "SNS" with English-speaking friends. The same goes for "French fries" and "chips". Stop doing this English.
