It's not easy to retain vocabulary and expressions when you're studying a language, and it's especially difficult to get words out on the spot when you're having conversations. I hope these weekly posts could be good practice for your Japanese, and let's take it one word at a time.
The question for today is: How do you say "Plastic Bottle" in Japanese??

ペットボトル [Petto Botoru]
Japanese people would write it out as PET bottle. PET stands for POLY ETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE, which is polyester used to make plastic bottles and clothing.
Or you can simply just say プラスチックボトル [Purasuchikku Botoru] or プラボトル [Pura Botoru] for short, but PET bottle is most commonly used.
Writer's note: The hardest thing about living in Japan is recycling. You need to take off the cap and the label and keep all the plastic bottles in one bag. There are specific days for specific types of garbage; sometimes your neighbors could get mad at you if they catch you making mistakes. It's not fun but Japan is really clean and I think some countries can learn from them.
