It's not easy to retain vocabulary and expressions when you're studying a language, and it's especially difficult to get words out on the spot when you're having conversations. I hope these weekly posts could be good practice for your Japanese, and let's take it one word at a time.
The question for today is: How do you say "Excuse" or "Make an Excuse" in Japanese??

言い訳 [Iiwake] - Excuse
言い訳する [Iiwake suru] - To make an excuse
言う [Iiu] typically means to speak
訳 [Wake] means reason
Together, it means "excuse".
Writer's note: I really have nothing to add for this section but I'm happy we're getting warmer weather, though the cold weather gives me an excuse to stay inside. Japan is pretty cold compared to where I lived before.
