相合傘 (Aiaigasa)

"Aiaigasa refers to two people with romantic interests sharing an umbrella"



相合 (aiai) means doing or sharing something with two or more people. 

傘 (gasa) means umbrella. It should be noted that although it is normally read as "kasa", due to Japanese morphophonology, kasa together with another word becomes "gasa". 


This is often seen in movies, dramas, and anime between two love interests in Japan, and is a typical scenario for many romance stories.


Writer’s note: Sharing an umbrella is never seen as romantic in America and I don’t think I would feel a particular way if I ever shared an umbrella with someone but I guess it’s a thing in Japan. Japan has so many weird clichés like bumping into someone with bread in your mouth on your way to school and falling in love, but hey, love comes in different shapes and forms right?
